Hair Loss

Procedure Overview

01

OVERVIEW

The procedure typically involves one of two main methods: Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUT involves removing a small strip of skin from the back of the head, dissecting it into individual follicular units, and then implanting these units into the recipient area. FUE, on the other hand, involves the individual extraction of follicular units from the donor area, which are then transplanted directly to the balding or thinning areas.

02

DURATION AND RECOVERY

The duration of the hair transplantation procedure can vary widely depending on the method used and the extent of hair loss. Generally, the surgery may take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. Some cases may require more than one session to achieve the desired results. After the procedure, you can usually return home the same day. Recovery time is generally short, especially for FUE procedures. The scalp may be tender for a few days, and medication may be prescribed for pain relief. You can expect to return to work and regular activities within a week or two. The transplanted hair will initially fall out, but new growth should begin within a few months. Full results are typically visible after 6 to 12 months.

03

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

It's essential to have realistic expectations. While the transplanted hair is more resistant to DHT, the hormone responsible for hair loss, it's still possible to lose existing hair around the transplanted area over time. Follow-up sessions may be necessary for maintenance.

05

RISKS AND CONSIDERATIONS

As with any surgery, there's a risk of post-op infections. If not done correctly, transplants can appear unnatural. Some methods may leave scars on the donor site. Occasionally, transplanted hairs might not grow as expected. Travel concerns, such as the duration of stay, recovery time, and the challenges of post-op care in a foreign country, should also be considered.
