DR HIMAL SOOKA

Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon

Dr Sooka completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Witwatersrand in 2009. He subsequently undertook his medical internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, which is renowned as the largest hospital in the southern hemisphere, and Africa itself. He then completed his community service at the Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital complex in the North-West province. In 2013, he began specialist training in general surgery, and in 2015 commenced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, qualifying as a plastic surgeon in 2019. After qualifying, Dr Sooka then undertook an 18-month fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre in affiliation with the University of Witwatersrand – the first of its kind in South Africa. During this time, he performed complex microsurgical procedures at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, as well as the Donald Gordon Medical Centre. This provided him with specialist training in a wide array of advanced, complex reconstructive microsurgery procedures, including, but not limited to, microsurgical breast reconstruction, head and neck oncology, trauma reconstruction, and lower limb reconstruction. Dr Sooka’s practice is based in Bryanston at the Mediclinic Sandton. He offers wide-ranging specialist services in reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery.
